What makes a good Etsy tag
- Use all 13. Each tag is another search you can be found for.
- Phrases, not single words. “margate travel poster” beats “poster” – fewer listings compete for it and the buyer knows what they want.
- Specific beats generic. Etsy already matches your category and colour attributes, so tags like “wall art” or “blue” waste a slot.
- No near-duplicates. “margate print” and “margate prints” count as the same search.
- Echo your title. Listings whose title and tags share their key phrases tend to rank better.

How long can an Etsy tag be?
20 characters, including spaces. Letters, numbers, spaces and a few symbols (hyphen, apostrophe, &, ™, ©, ®) are allowed.
Should I repeat words from my title in my tags?
Yes – repeating your key phrases in both is one of the clearest signals of what the listing is. Just don’t waste tags on exact duplicates or plurals.
